Operational Overview

Annually, we handled more than 8.0 million tonnes of vegetable oils, palm kernel expeller and grains. This constitutes about 40 - 50% of total country export. We receive and despatch vegetable oils, oleochemicals and biodiesel via road tankers, pipelines and seagoing vessels.

In Pasir Gudang alone, FJB can handle between 4 million and 5 million tonnes of oil annually. It has dedicated oleochemicals and biodiesel stainless steel storage facilities with a total capacity of 65,600 tonnes. It can also cater for 5 seagoing vessels (draught of 8m inner jetty and 12.5m outer jetty) and 2 barges (draught 4-6m) simultaneously. All terminals own dedicated export pipelines with an average pumping rate of between 250 and 350 tonnes per hour.

All inward movements of road tankers are thoroughly checked by security guards and all related particulars are recorded before proceeding to weighing. The same is done as tankers leave the terminal after discharge or collection of oil.

The weight of the oil delivered by road tankers is determined by electronic weighbridges. To further enhance the security system, the weighbridges are computer controlled with security features incorporated into the system to reduce the risk of malpractices.

The discharging bays are connected to bulking pumps having pumping capacity of 100 cbm per hour. Besides, there are also facilities for discharging of oil into the road tankers. There are dedicated stainless steel bulking facilities to handle oleochemicals, biodiesel and special quality products.

The terminal is also equipped with the latest and most sophisticated facilities to handle oil movements.

Direct pumping of oil from or to major palm oil refineries is also made possible via a sophisticated pipeline system. While reducing the cost of transport charges this will ensure minimum handling of the oil thus reduces risk of possible contamination besides preserving the oil quality. The pipeline transfer is available for both crude and refined products.

The storage tanks are fully equipped with computerised automatic tank heating control system to regulate temperatures for each product in the tank and prevent overheating especially for higher value products. Automatic tank gauging systems are also installed to monitor the level and temperature of the product in the tank.

Information on the stock at any tank is also made readily available through computerised means (using IBM AS/400 system).

All these systems have been checked and approved by SIRIM (Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) and the Customs Department while all tanks were calibrated by qualified surveyors under SIRIM's supervision.

We adhere to commercial, computerized and stringent quality controls of oil at various stages. All these are conducted at a fully equipped laboratory headed by qualified chemists. The laboratory is licensed by Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) as well as accredited with ISO/IEC 17025 by Department of Standards Malaysia.

To ensure quality control, tanks are also internally coated or made of stainless steel. In addition, nitrogen blanketing and sparging facilities are available for high quality oil. Stirrers are also provided to ensure that the oil is properly homogenised. Colour coded pipelines in the pump houses provide additional visual safety.
